This course was developed by Fire and Rescue NSW uniformed officers who have extensive operational experience and hold qualifications in Training and Assessment.

Overview

This course is non-accredited refresher training specifically for those who are in the role of Fire Safety Officer and those who have completed the Fire Safety Officer accredited course and want to stay current in best practice. This refresher is designed to meet the requirements of the NSW Health Policy Direct (PD2010_024) – Fire Safety in Health Care Facilities.

The training provides a refresher for participants to perform the duties and responsibilities of the Fire Safety Officer with confidence. It will review the competencies required to undertake emergency planning, implement and coordinate emergency response procedures and be familiar with the operation of installed systems and building fire safety.

  • Identify, prevent and report potential facility emergency situations
  • Ensure facility emergency prevention procedures, systems and processes are implemented
  • Respond to facility emergencies
  • Operate as part of an Emergency Control Organisation (ECO)
  • Confine small emergencies in a facility

Entry Requirements

All participants of this course must hold the Fire Safety Officer units of competency (PUAFER001, PUAFER002, PUAFER004, PUAFER005, PUAFER006 and PUAFER008 or equivalent units) and will be asked to provide evidence of previous certificate before an enrolment can be confirmed. Participants must also have the physical capacity to respond to workplace emergencies where there may be risk to life. Participants must be physically capable of conducting an evacuation and aiding those in need.
