Course Description

This nationally accredited course is designed for people who undertake working within the command, control and coordinate structure of the emergency control organisation. Clients will acquire competency to implement the emergency response specified in the workplace emergency response procedures, across various emergency situations.

Through a combination of theory and practical skills, this course is part of the workplace evacuation stream and has been developed to cover the broad range of emergencies and workplaces as considered in Australian Standard 3745 – 2010.

The Unit of Competency covered is: PUAWER005B.

Certification

This is an accredited training course and as such there are written and practical assessments. Upon successful completion, a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment will be awarded within the AQTF and under the authority of the NSW Vocational Educational & Training Act.

Course Overview

This is a competency based course, practical skills need to be achieved after classroom presentation; competencies of skills will need to be demonstrated. At the conclusion of this course, clients will be able to:

  • Respond to emergency reports, signals and warnings appropriately
  • Exercise leadership within a workplace emergency context, providing clear direction under emergency conditions
  • Communicate with a diverse range of people in emergency situations
  • Provide assistance to people in need and carry out a search pattern within an area, applying methods of accounting for people
  • Contribute to emergency management planning
  • Use the equipment assigned to assist with implementing the workplace emergency procedures
  • Define the types of workplace fires and assist with post initial response

Participation

There is a minimum of 6 and maximum of 15 clients per program. This course is conducted from various Fire & Rescue NSW Training Facilities and also at client premises.
