Course Description

This nationally accredited course provides clients with the competency to confine small workplace emergencies, such as a small fire that can be controlled using a nearby fire extinguisher; or a chemical spill that can be controlled using workplace personal protective clothing and equipment, and a small spill kit; or a workplace vehicle accident where there is no significant injury or damage.

The Unit of Competencies covered is: PUAWER008B.

Certification

This is an accredited training course and as such there are written and practical assessments. Upon successful completion, a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment will be awarded within the AQTF and under the authority of the NSW Vocational Educational & Training Act.

Course Overview

This is a competency based course, practical skills need to be achieved after classroom presentation; competencies of skills will need to be demonstrated.

At the conclusion of this course, clients will be able to:

• Prepare for emergency situations and appropriate response, identifying relevant workplace emergency procedures
• Correctly identify and assess the type of emergency that has occurred and safety confine emergencies where possible
• To identify and take action to avoid or control any associated hazards;
• Use initial response equipment and techniques to safely and effectively control or contain the emergency
• Report workplace emergency response

Participation

There is a minimum of 6 and maximum of 15 clients per program. This course is conducted from various Fire & Rescue NSW Training Facilities.
